YES   Virginia O’Hanlon from the 1890s. In 1897, at age 8, she wrote a letter to The New York Sun to ask if Santa Claus was real. The resulting editorial produced one of journalism’s celebrated lines; today, her descendants travel across the country to appear at events in her honor, including readings of the response to Virginia’s famous letter, to help keep the spirit of Christmas alive.  (Photo and article via the New York Times)
